Along the way
A ride-along guide for the drives. Pick the drive you're on and it tells you what's coming up, the way the Shaka guide apps do. Two narrators: Pip the Puffin, a cheerful little puffin from Haystack Rock who keeps it short and silly for the kids, or the phone's own voice reading the full grown-up story. Turn on Location and it speaks up on its own as you get close to each spot. It loads the drive's narration ahead of time, in case signal drops in the Coast Range.
The whole trip
Every day's real driving route on one map. Short days stay within about 30 minutes of the house; the long ones are Cannon Beach, Silver Falls, Cape Perpetua and the airport runs. Tap a day button to zoom to it, or a day card to open it.
Playgrounds
One for most days, matched to where you'll already be.
Whales, puffins & sea lions
Early May lands at the tail of the spring gray whale migration, and the puffins are back on Haystack Rock. Binoculars are the single best thing to pack.
Rainy-day backups
Coast weather in May is 50s–60s with a real chance of rain. Swap any short day for one of these. Waterfall hikes (Silver Falls, Drift Creek) are still great in drizzle.
Food & coffee
Breakfast and lunch at the Airbnb most days; these are simple, family-easy spots for coffee, a breakfast treat, or dinner. Hours change seasonally, so check before driving over.
What it costs
Entry and parking fees for the plan as written, for the whole family in one car. Both kids ride free almost everywhere at their ages. Food, gas and the optional whale-watch boat aren't included.
Know before you go
Drive times come from OpenStreetMap routing and assume normal traffic; Hwy 101 summer and weekend traffic runs slower. Park closures, fees and hours were checked in October and November 2026; recheck the week before you go. Directions links open Google Maps.
